At screenings, audiences often ask whether My Wife’s Fiancé reflects a hidden desire or a personal belief.
In reality, the film is less concerned with infidelity than with conviction.
Miyu is not a symbol of freedom, rebellion, or modern romance. She is a person who constructs her own logic and follows it fearlessly. What makes her compelling is not whether she is right, but how confidently she occupies a position that others would never dare to defend.
The film examines the unsettling power of self-belief — the way a sufficiently convincing narrative can blur the boundary between reason and absurdity.
At its core, My Wife’s Fiancé is about people who desperately want their version of reality to be true. And I was interested in that fragile space between logic and self-delusion, where confidence can become more persuasive than truth.
