The Story Behind the Story -My Wife's Fiancé

Looking back, the process of making this film was far more peaceful than I had imagined. It was enjoyable, and above all, it was a time when I could be brave without even realizing how much I didn’t know.

There are mountains of things left to learn, and the flaws I can now see seem endless. Perhaps I was able to keep moving forward because I knew so little. Perhaps it was precisely my ignorance that allowed me to take each step without fear.

Even so, I was able to complete this film because of the good people around me. Through every mistake, every uncertainty, and every unexpected challenge, I was fortunate to have people who supported me, believed in me, and helped me find my way forward.

Miyu is someone who takes the first step toward a path that no one else is willing to take. Without calculating what might happen next, she simply steps forward. In a moment where neither success nor failure is certain, she is a person whose curiosity is just a little stronger than her fear.

To me, this film is a record of that first step. It is not a story that began with answers, but one that could only begin because the answers were unknown. Being able to capture that fragile space somewhere between courage and recklessness remains a precious memory and a meaningful attempt.

돌이켜보면 이 작품의 제작 과정은 생각보다 평화로웠다. 즐거웠고, 무엇보다도 내가 얼마나 많은 것을 모르고 있었는지조차 모른 채 용감할 수 있었던 시간이었다.배워야 할 것은 산 넘어 산이고, 부족했던 점도 끝없이 보인다. 그때의 나는 어쩌면 무모할 정도로 많은 것을 몰랐고, 그래서 오히려 두려움 없이 한 걸음씩 나아갈 수 있었는지도 모른다.

그럼에도 불구하고 이 작품을 끝까지 완성할 수 있었던 것은 주변의 좋은 사람들 덕분이었다. 함께 고민해 주고, 도와주고, 믿어준 사람들이 있었기에 수많은 시행착오 속에서도 당황하지 않고 끝까지 걸어갈 수 있었다.

미유는 아무도 먼저 내딛으려 하지 않았던 길 앞에서, 그 끝에 무엇이 기다리고 있는지 계산하지 않고 가장 먼저 한 발을 내딛었다. 성공도 실패도 확신할 수 없는 순간, 두려움보다 호기심이 조금 더 컸던 인물.

내게 이 영화는 그런 한 걸음의 기록이다. 정답을 알고 시작한 이야기가 아니라, 알 수 없기에 시작할 수 있었던 이야기. 그리고 그 용기와 무모함 사이 어딘가에 존재했던 순간을 영상으로 남길 수 있었던 것 자체가 소중한 기억이자 의미 있는 시도였다.
